Story

Hi, I'm Pete.  Thank you for visiting our website.

The story of Morecambe Bay Chowder Co below is essentially a tale of kindness and of community. But the majority of the characters in the story aren't us. They are you. The lovely people, producers and visitors of Morecambe Bay.  Thank you for reading and hope to serve you soon. Pete.

During lockdown some gardened, some baked. I made chowder. And lots of it!  Endless trials of stocks and spice mixes.  But would anyone be interested in a business making a local chowder?

With the help of Helen and my mum.  Over 6 weeks, we managed to deliver a postcard sharing our idea to nearly all the homes across Morecambe & Lancaster.

I remember the gentleman who offered a cup of tea and shelter when the rain was so heavy. The lady who messaged to say her little boy loved the idea. People telling folk tales of Morecambe days gone by and picking shrimp as a child.

In March 2021, a kind Doctor and Florist offered to host tastings. Local people came out in the cold to try our dish. Suggesting herbs and spices and perhaps serving with a cracker.

That April, 130 local people generously supported a crowdfund to build our solar-powered chowder tricycle. He was named after Harry Roberts MBE following an online vote supported by the Roberts family and RNLI.

Harry Roberts was the first Commander of the Hurley Flyer hovercraft stationed in Morecambe. He served for 34 years saving 77 lives. Harry's example of commmunity service inspires us everyday.
